                                        School Management Committee (S.M.C.)

1. According to Section 21 of the Right of the Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009 and Rule 3 and 4 of the State Rules, 2011, a School Management Committee (S.M.C.) has been formed to increase community participation and ownership in the school.

2. School Management Committee has two parts, General Assembly and Executive Committee.

3. In the general meeting, the parents/guardians of every student studying in the school, all the teachers, all the public representatives residing in the concerned area and the remaining members elected/nominated in the executive committee of the committee are present.

4. The reference person should make it clear to the participants that all the members of the General Assembly i.e. the parents of each child and all the public representatives of his area are members of the SMC. He has all the responsibilities and rights of SMC.

5. To run the work of the committee smoothly, the committee has a 16- member executive committee, which has the following officers:-

Member (11)

11 members elected by the General Assembly from among the parents or guardian members for the Executive Committee, out of which at least 6 are women, 1 is from SC. Caste and 1 belongs to the Scheduled Tribe.

Ex offico member (1)

Ward Panch / Councilor of the ward of the Gram Panchayat / Municipality in which the school is located.

Ex officio member secretary (1)

In the absence of the Headmaster / Headmistress, the senior most teacher / mentor

Elected teacher

Another female teacher / counselor (if available) elected by the teachers of the school for the committee, otherwise a male teacher / counselor.

Nominated member (2)

Two such persons nominated by the Member of the Legislative Assembly of the school are (of which at least one should be a woman and one from among the parents or guardian members) who are residents of that revenue village for rural areas / ward of the ward in which the school is situated or a local educationist or school child nominated by the parents or guardian members of the committee. First priority in nomination should be given to the persons nominated by the Assembly Member, but before nomination, written approval of the persons nominated by the Assembly Member will be required. Second priority in nomination should be given to the teachers who have received awards at national / state level and are residents of the school area.
